Where There is a Will, There is a Way

ENGLISH

One day, a crow became very thirsty. He flew from one place to another in search of water. But he found no water. He continued his search for water in order to save his life. At last he saw a jar at a distance and flew down to it. It found that there was a little water at the bottom of the jar and it was too low for the crow to reach. The crow tried its level best to reach the water but all its attempts were in vain. The crow was in a fix what to do. But he did not lose heart. He tried to overturn the jar but failed. When he was about to fly away, he saw some stones a little away from the jar. At once he hit upon a plan. He picked up the stones one by one and dropped them into the jar. When he dropped a large number of stones, the water in the jar rose high enough for him to reach it. Then the crow quenched its thirst drinking water to his heart's content.

Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover (Sheikh Saadi)

ENGLISH

The King of Iran used to invite the great poet Sheikh Saadi to his court. Once on his way to the King's court the poet took shelter in a noble man's house for a night. He was then wearing a very simple dress and the rich man could not recognize him. The people of that house did not behave well with him. However, Sheikh Saadi left that rich man's house the next day. After a few days, he went to that rich man's house again with a rich dress. At that time, he was duly respected and honoured by that rich man. They gave him delicious food to eat. But the poet did not eat the food. Rather he began to put the food in his pockets. Being astonished, the rich man asked him about his mysterious behaviour. The poet answered that the given food was for his dress as he failed to get same manners when he was very simply dressed. The rich man understood his wrong and became very sad for this. He begged forgiveness of the poet.

Failure is The Pillar Of Success (Robert Bruce)

ENGLISH

Robert Bruce was the king of Scotland. His army was defeated again and again against the King Edward-I of England. Being defeated for six times he lost his hope. Naturally he was very sad. In order to save his kingdom he took shelter in a remote cave. One day when he was lying in the cave, suddenly he saw a spider trying hard to reach the ceiling of the cave. The spider failed again and again to attain success in this. But it did not lose heart. Bruce saw the spider climbing to the ceiling after many unsuccessful attempts. This dauntless spider inspired Robert Bruce to foil despair. He gathered an army of strong men and attacked his enemies with new vigour. The enemies courted defeat and Robert Bruce regained his kingdom. It also indicates that where there is a will, there is a way.

King Midas and His Greediness

ENGLISH

Once upon a time, there was a king called Midas. He was very rich yet he always longed for more riches. Moreover, he was fond of gold though he had a lot of it. He thought if he had the golden touch, he would be the happiest man in the world. The desire of having more and more gold afflicted him all the time. A wise god granted his wish promptly. Half an hour later, as the king was sitting under an apple tree in his garden, suddenly a ripe apple fell beside him. He picked it up. As soon as he touched it, the apple turned into gold. He could hardly believe his eyes. Then whatever he touched, everything turned into gold. As he entered his palace, his little daughter ran up to him and he took her in his arms. Instantly she turned into gold. He was struck with horror. He cried out in anguish. Immediately the wise god took the golden touch away and the girl became human again.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race (Hare and Tortoise)

ENGLISH

Once there lived a hare in a forest. He was always proud of his speed in movement. A tortoise also lived there. The hare always teased the tortoise for its slow speed. One day the hare and the tortoise agreed to run a race. In the race a distant place was selected as the destination. Almost all the animals surrounded the road. They looked very curious and happy. At a certain time the race started and both began to run ahead. At first the hare was ahead of the tortoise and crossed half of the distance quickly. But the tortoise was very slow but steady. The hare, sure of his success, decided to take a nap beside the road. He fell fast asleep. On the contrary, the tortoise kept walking and walking without any rest. He crossed the sleeping hare and reached the destination first. The tortoise proved, "Slow and steady wins the race."

Honesty is The Best Policy (Poor Rickshaw Puller)

ENGLISH

Once there lived a poor rickshaw puller. He had to maintain his family consisting of six members with great difficulty. One day while walking through the fields, he found a purse of gold dropped by a passer-by. He decided to take it home with the intention of returning it to its owner. However, his greedy wife urged him to keep the gold for their own benefits. Despite the temptation, the rickshaw puller, being an honest man, resisted and firmly expressed his determination to return the purse. Without wasting any time, he promptly went to the nearby police station and handed over the purse of gold. The police officer appreciated his honesty. Four days later, the owner of the purse arrived at his home, rewarded him generously with a large sum of money to start a shop, and thanked him endlessly. Honesty indeed brings its own reward.

Borrowed Knowledge, Borrowed Failure (Liton's Realization)

ENGLISH

Liton is a brilliant student. Though he wants to make a good result, he does not attend classes regularly. Rather than studying deeply, he memorised answers blindly from guide books and coaching sheets. As a result, he failed to score well in exams. One day, his teacher explained to him that true education comes from curiosity and deep understanding, not borrowed answers. Liton realised his mistake, stopped cramming guide sheets, and started attending class diligently. In the final board exam, he achieved outstanding marks by writing from his own creativity. "Knowledge borrowed is a debt never repaid," his teacher remarked happily.
