Where There is a Will, There is a Way
English

One day, a crow became very thirsty. He flew from one place to another in search of water. But he found no water. He continued his search for water in order to save his life. At last he saw a jar at a distance and flew down to it. It found that there was a little water at the bottom of the jar and it was too low for the crow to reach. The crow tried its level best to reach the water but all its attempts were in vain. The crow was in a fix what to do. But he did not lose heart. He tried to overturn the jar but failed. When he was about to fly away, he saw some stones a little away from the jar. At once he hit upon a plan. He picked up the stones one by one and dropped them into the jar. When he dropped a large number of stones, the water in the jar rose high enough for him to reach it. Then the crow quenched its thirst drinking water to his heart's content.

Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover
English

The King of Iran used to invite the great poet Sheikh Saadi to his court. Once on his way to the King's court the poet took shelter in a noble man's house for a night. He was then wearing a very simple dress and the rich man could not recognize him. The people of that house did not behave well with him. However, Sheikh Saadi left that rich man's house the next day. After a few days, he went to that rich man's house again with a rich dress. At that time, he was duly respected and honoured by that rich man. They gave him delicious food to eat. But the poet did not eat the food. Rather he began to put the food in his pockets. Being astonished, the rich man asked him about his mysterious behaviour. The poet answered that the given food was for his dress as he failed to get same manners when he was very simply dressed. The rich man understood his wrong and became very sad for this. He begged forgiveness of the poet.

Failure is The Pillar Of Success
English

Robert Bruce was the king of Scotland. His army was defeated again and again against the King Edward-I of England. Being defeated for six times he lost his hope. Naturally he was very sad. In order to save his kingdom he took shelter in a remote cave. One day when he was lying in the cave, suddenly he saw a spider trying hard to reach the ceiling of the cave. The spider failed again and again to attain success in this. But it did not lose heart. Bruce saw the spider climbing to the ceiling after many unsuccessful attempts. This dauntless spider inspired Robert Bruce to foil despair. He gathered an army of strong men and attacked his enemies with new vigour. The enemies courted defeat and Robert Bruce regained his kingdom. It also indicates that where there is a will, "there is a way."

King Midas and His Greediness
English

Once upon a time, there was a king called Midas. He was very rich yet he always longed for more riches. Moreover, he was fond of gold though he had a lot of it. He thought if he had the golden touch, he would be the happiest man in the world. The desire of having more and more gold afflicted him all the time. A wise god granted his wish promptly. Half an hour later, as the king was sitting under an apple tree in his garden, suddenly a ripe apple fell beside him. He picked it up. As soon as he touched it, the apple turned into gold. He could hardly believe his eyes. Then whatever he touched, everything turned into gold. As he entered his palace, his little daughter ran up to him and he took her in his arms. Instantly she turned into gold. He was struck with horror. He cried out in anguish. Immediately the wise god took the golden touch away and the girl became human again.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race
English

Once there lived a hare in a forest. He was always proud of his speed in movement. A tortoise also lived there. The hare always teased the tortoise for its slow speed. One day the hare and the tortoise agreed to run a race. In the race a distant place was selected as the destination. Almost all the animals surrounded the road. They looked very curious and happy. The whole place put on a festive look because of the presence of other animals. At a certain time the race started and both the tortoise and the hare began to run ahead. At first the hare was ahead of the tortoise. Within moments the hare crossed half of the distance. But the tortoise was very slow but steady in his movement. The hare was sure of his success. Instead of reaching the destination the hare decided to stop and take a rest in a side of the road. He thought that the tortoise was very slow and if he took rest for sometime, he would not have to face any problem. So, he slept on the way. On the contrary, the tortoise was running and running but very slowly. He did not need any rest. When he reached at the middle of the road, he found the hare sleeping. So, he continued to run ahead very steadily. In the meantime, he reached the destination and won the race. The tortoise proved, "Slow and steady wins the race", while the hare proved, "Boastfulness brings about ruination."

Honesty of a Woodcutter
English

There lived a woodcutter in a village. One day he was cutting wood near a river. Suddenly, his axe fell into the river. The river was very deep. The woodcutter did not know how to swim or dive. So, he was sitting there sadly. Then a wonderful thing happened. A beautiful fairy appeared before the woodcutter. She asked him why he was sitting sadly. The wood cutter told her the whole incident. Then she took pity on him and expressed her hope to help him. She assured him that he was sure to get his axe back. Saying this, the fairy went under the water of the river. After sometime she came back with a gold axe. She showed him it. But the woodcutter said that that one was not his. So, she again went under water and brought to him a silver axe. But this time also the woodcutter refused to take it. Rather he said that his axe was of iron not of gold or silver. The fairy again went under water and brought an iron axe. The woodcutter expressed his gratitude getting his lost axe back. He was about to leave the spot. Just at that time the fairy gave him the rest two axes as gift of his honesty. She said, "These two axes are gift for you from me. I am really pleased at your honesty."

A Liar Cowboy
English

Once there lived a cowboy in a village. He used to graze cattle near a forest. It was not very far away from his village. Besides his usual duty, he sang and played the flute. But the boy had a bad habit. He used to tell lies. One day while grazing his sheep, he shouted Wolf! Wolf! help! The villagers heard the shout and ran to help him. But the boy laughed at them. He also said that he just made fun with them. Thus he made the same fun for a long time. One day as usual he was tending his sheep near the same forest. Suddenly a wolf really came out of the forest. The wolf killed the sheep first. The boy kept crying for help. But the wolf attacked him and killed him rapidly. Though he shouted for help, none came to rescue him.

Unity is Strength
English

An old farmer had four sons. They used to quarrel with one another. One day the farmer told his sons to bring a bundle of sticks. They brought a bundle of sticks. Then the farmer asked them to break it. The three sons tried one after another but none could break it. After that the old farmer asked his sons to untie the bundle and told each of his sons to take one stick. Each of them took one stick. Their father asked them to break the sticks. Who Will Bell the Cat?
English

Once upon a time, the house of a rich man was infested with rats. They were living there with great happiness without any fear. They were having great fun and boldly moved in the house. But the inmates of the house were having great trouble. One day they brought a cat to get rid of the rats. The cat was swift and clever. As soon as she arrived, she began hunting the rats one by one. The rats, who were once carefree, now lived in constant fear. They could no longer roam the house freely. The cat's presence made it impossible for them to steal food or play around as they used to. Desperate, the rats held a meeting to find a way to deal with the cat. After much discussion, one young rat suggested tying a bell around the cat's neck. "That way," he said, "we will always hear her coming and have time to escape." The idea was praised by all the rats. However, an old rat spoke up and asked, "But who will bell the cat?" Silence fell over the group, as none of the rats dared to take on such a dangerous task. The meeting ended without a solution, and the rats continued living in fear. The story teaches us that it is easy to propose ideas, but carrying them out requires courage and effort. It also reminds us to think carefully before acting.

Two Cats and the Monkey
English

One day two rats stole a piece of bread. They tried to divide it into two equal parts but failed. For, each rat wanted the larger part of the bread. They even fought for that. Lastly, they agreed to put up their problem to the monkey who was considered the wisest animal in the forest. They went to the monkey. The monkey assured them of equal dividing. The cunning monkey managed a scale to show them that he was very sincere to divide the piece equally. Then he broke the bread into two pieces. But the crafty monkey divided the piece in such a way that the pieces were not actually equal. One portion was bigger while the other was smaller. Then he wanted to lessen the bigger portion. So, he started biting the bigger portion. As a result, the smaller portion became larger and the larger portion became smaller. And the monkey continued biting the larger portion in such a way that the other portion would not be equal. Thus with his sheer trick the monkey finally ate up the entire bread.

Honesty is The Best Policy
English

Once there lived a poor rickshaw puller. He had to maintain his family consisting of six members with great difficulty. He always thought of additional income for the maintenance of his family. One day while walking through the fields, he found a purse of gold dropped by a passer-by. He decided to take it home with the intention of returning it to its owner. However, his greedy wife urged him to keep the gold for their own benefits. Despite the temptation, the rickshaw puller, being an honest man, resisted and firmly expressed his determination to return the purse. Without wasting any time, he promptly went to the nearby police station and handed over the purse of gold, providing them with detailed information about where and how he found it. The police officer appreciated his honesty and filed a report. Satisfied with his choice, the poor rickshaw puller returned home. Four days later, as the rickshaw puller was about to start his day, he noticed a police vehicle and another car parked on the road near his house. They were searching for the person who had submitted the purse of gold at the police station.

Once the rickshaw puller confirmed his identity, the police officer introduced him to the owner of the purse. The man expressed his immense gratitude to the rickshaw puller and, as a reward for his honesty, generously gave him a significant sum of money to start a small shop and improve his family's financial situation. The rickshaw puller happily accepted the reward and thanked Allah for granting him the strength to remain honest during challenging times.

She immediately told Motin, and they both cried tears of happiness because their hard days were finally over. But their joy turned into fear the very next morning when Dilara opened her bag and found that the lottery ticket was missing. She searched everywhere, under the bed, in the kitchen, and on the floor, but it was nowhere to be found. Dilara broke down crying, thinking that their luck was destroyed forever. Just when they lost all hope, a poor beggar from their village knocked on their door. He held out his hand and showed them the exact lottery ticket, which had accidentally fallen from Dilara's bag near the village market. The beggar knew the ticket was worth millions, but being an honest man, he chose to return it. Motin and Dilara were moved to tears by his honesty. They happily received the prize money, changed their own lives by opening a small dairy farm, and as a true act of gratitude, they appointed the beggar as their manager and took care of him forever.

Borrowed Knowledge, Borrowed Failure
English

Liton is a brilliant student. Though he wants to make a good result, he does not attend classes regularly. Rather than going to a coaching center, he memorises answers from guide books and sheets and finds that he cannot cut a good figure in the exams. One day, his class teacher called him and sat him down beneath the old mango tree in the school garden. "Liton," the teacher said softly, "tell me why do birds sing?" Liton blinked and murmured a memorised line from his guide book. His teacher shook his head with a patient smile. "They sing because they feel it, not because someone printed it for them." Deeply moved by those words, Liton began attending every class, asking questions, and reading with genuine curiosity. His notebooks grew thicker and his guide books gathered dust in a forgotten corner. When the annual examination arrived, Liton sat with calm confidence and answered every question from his own understanding yet not another's words. The results were announced on a stormy Monday morning. Surprisingly, Liton had secured the highest marks in the entire district while his coaching classmates, who had memorised the very same guide sheets, had failed spectacularly and uniformly. The coaching teacher, upon hearing the news, reportedly swallowed his own attendance register out of sheer embarrassment. "Knowledge borrowed is a debt never repaid," his teacher whispered proudly. True education begins not in coaching centres, but in the humble classroom of honest curiosity.

The Richest Dream of a Rickshaw Man
English

Rahmat Mia is a poor rickshaw puller in Dhaka. He pulls his rickshaw across different areas of the city. One day, he saw some men selling lottery tickets. He felt tempted and bought a ticket. He had no idea whether fortune would smile or scowl at a man who smelled of sweat and open roads. That night, he tucked the small paper ticket beneath his pillow and dreamed of a new rickshaw, a concrete house, and a full plate of rice every single evening. Days passed in hopeful restlessness. Then, on a humid Thursday afternoon near a roadside tea stall, he heard a number announced on a crackling radio - a number that sounded remarkably like his own. Rahmat Mia's hands trembled. He borrowed spectacles from a stranger and checked the ticket seventeen times with a pounding heart. He sprinted to the lottery office with his ticket, his torn shirt flapping gloriously like a victory flag - only to discover, to the collective amusement of the entire room, that he had been holding the ticket upside down the whole time, and his actual number had won absolutely nothing whatsoever.

Yet Rahmat Mia laughed the loudest and the longest. "At least for three full days," he grinned broadly, "I was the richest man in all of Dhaka in my dreams." He picked up his rickshaw handles and pedalled cheerfully back into the thundering city traffic, whistling as though he had won everything.

A Devastating Fire Accident in a Garments Factory
English

Rafi is a worker of a big factory in Dhaka. There are more than 500 workers in the factory. One day while he was working, a loud sound was heard. Fire! Fire! Help! Help!

Rafi was terrified. Without any delay, he rushed to the spot from where the sound was coming. She saw that their garment factory had caught fire. Instantly, she phoned their manager. The manager who was very wise and judicious, immediately rushed to the factory and opened the main gate. Meanwhile, all the garment workers rushed to the main gate to save their own lives. The panic-stricken workers endeavoured their best to get out of the building. They trampled one another and consequently some died and many got seriously wounded. Fortunately, Rafi could get out of the building safely. In the meantime, fire workers reached spot. They rescued the garment workers and got themselves engaged in putting out the fire. After fighting for three hours against the fire, they eventually became successful in extinguishing the fire. Five workers died on the spot and about two hundred were severely wounded. The wounded were taken to different hospitals and the clinics for necessary medical treatment.
